This book was dedicated to and published for the benefit of blind South Africans. Inspired by an article in `Time` on A Day in the Life of Australia, the idea was simple – get hundreds of professional and amateur photographers to take pictures throughout the 24 hours of 26 May 1982 and submit them for inclusion – but the publicity and other logistics required were formidable, and the project would not have got off the ground without strong corporate support. In the end, thousands of photographs, from amateurs and professionals, were judged, and hundreds – all acknowledged – used in what became a landmark publication.
